WIFIP stands for Women in the Fishing Industry Programme (Education and Development). WIFIP is a non-governmental organization that was founded in the year 2002 and registered on the 24th of September 2004. WIFIP was founded with the desire to contribute to the empowerment of marginalized communities in general and women in particular through education and development initiatives.
Women in the Fishing Industry Programme is based and works in Western Kenya and with partnership and colllaboration with other organization stretches its activities to the whole of Nyanza Province. WIFIP gives people the voice to take action through socio-economic development initiatives. The organization is run by a Secretariat of ten professional staff headed by the Executive Director. WIFIP also works with volunteers and its target groups who are actively involved in projects based on formal and distance learning models to empower them.
WIFP uses non-formal and distance learning models to promote flexible learning including:
- interactive pre-packaged radio
- educational audio
- face to face and participatory education
- theater and public education
Through these learning models WIFIP manages to reach a wide range of its target groups and instill in them knowledge that empower them to improve their status of living.
Our main aim is Socio-Economic Empowerment of marginalized groups particularly Women and Youth in the Fishing Industry and city informal settlements with a national geographical coverage. WIFIPs geographical focus is on Western Kenya.
